THINGS WE FROTH: BLEEDING KNEES CLUB’S SHOW AT THE NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB

Posted on: April 23rd, 2012 by iohyou No Comments

On Saturday our boys Bleeding Knees Club headlined the Northcote Social Club, Dune Rats are Drunk Mums supported – shit sold out during the week. It was hands down the best show I’ve been to all year, it made me feel like I did when I was 15 and used to and see Kisschasy and Horsell Common at The Embassy Hotel in Penrith. Mad community vibe going down, everyone dressing up, crowd surfing from the start, home made banners…all that shit. Check out some of the videos and photos below.

Crazy props to all those who attended and thanks for reminding us that the scene still exists!

THE DEATH SET – AUSTRALIAN TOUR

Posted on: November 7th, 2011 by iohyou 1 Comment

I OH YOU, ILLUSIVE, DRUM MEDIA, RAVE & BEAT ARE PROUD TO PRESENT…

THE DEATH SET – AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2011/2012

It is with great pleasure and excitement that the kids from Melbourne behind the moniker of I OH YOU announce today that they will be touring the almighty three-piece party (band) that is The Death Set in support of their 2011 release Michel Poiccard (NinjaTune/Inertia) in Australia this coming December/January around their 2011 Falls Festival slot in Lorne.

The Death Set, from Brooklyn, originally hail from the sunny Gold Coast, Australia. It was here where Johnny Siera met co-founding member Beau Velasco in 2005. Drawn to one another’s reckless care of music, the duo united to write fleeting songs with lifelong hooks and overdriven melody. Hell-bent on recording and touring, The Death Set moved the U.S. originally to the gnarly streets of Baltimore then to Philadelphia then finally to Brooklyn.

In 2008 The Death Set released their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Worldwide’ through Ninja Tune’s imprint label ‘Counter Records’. This 25 minute release went on to grab the attention of many including Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, Spank Rock and Bonde Do Role who all took the band on tour to help create chaos across the world. From Fuji Rock festival in Japan, to DIY basements in Paris….the debut record (which Pitchfork suggested could be a ‘viable alternative energy source’ to the global oil crisis and had NME touting them as the #1 biggest hope for the future) saw the band hit the world stage.

Which brings us to The Death Set’s new sophomore album, which sadly comes prefigured by tragedy. Just as the pair were about to embark on writing a new album together, Velasco, who had struggled with drug addiction on and off throughout his life, died of an overdose.

With this tragic news it would have been understandable that The Death Set come to an end however Siera pushed forward and brought in fellow Australian and long time friend Dan Walker who joined the band, the two relocated to Brooklyn and went into the studio with long time friend and the renowned producer ‘XXXChange’ along with special guest appearances from friends Diplo and Spank Rock. What came out of that session was a nothing short of brilliant sophomore record ‘Michel Poiccard’. A record that takes all the party spazz which The Death Set have always represented and mixed it with honest and nostalgic lyrics regarding their departed friend. Once again, The Death Set wowed critics and fans alike and have now successfully toured the world off the back of it.

“This is the sort of chorus-heavy stoopid puk-rock record that makes you want to punch children in their silly faces from the sheer joy of being alive” 8/10 NME

“Equally at home on the radio as they will causing lasting hearing damage at uncomfortably cramped venues” Time Out London

“A tribute to Beau and testament to the band he helped build’s ability to conjue up DayGlo ADD punk” VICE
