Hmmm, naming your debut track ‘get low’ certainly makes me think I’m getting a 2018 version of the cult classic ‘Get Low’ by Lil’ Jon and the Eastside Boyz. I must admit that even though the first taste of upsidedownhead sounds nothing like the seminal 2002 crunk-crossover hit, this is a just as much of a banger. The mysterious artist (spoiler, it’s the alias of Sydney producer and multi-instrumentalist, Ross James, who has worked with Vera Blue, Wafia, Daniel Johns et al.) and his first single oozes dark, wonky electronica, alongside the whispered vocals from Ric Rufio. These downtempo tendencies only build further and further, until an absolutely huge release of earshattering noise, so hard this it needs this PSA: THIS TRACK HITS HARD.
‘get low’ is out now via Liberation Records.
