The Belligerents take us through their favourite albums of 2018.
After a huge year in 2017 where the Brissy band released their debut record Science Fiction and toured extensively, the boys performed a couple of one-off festival appearances this year. I guess that means we might see some fresh material in 2019 from The Belligerents. One can hope.
Read through the ripping choices below.
Mildlife – Phase
‘Zwango Zop’ is just a ripper dance track that reminds me of Sebastian Tellier, and there’s flute.
Sampology, Sam Stosuur and Megan Christensen – Middle Name Dance Tracks, Vol. 1
Actually dig the use of the ARP odyssey in track Odyseey, saw them live and there’s heaps of improv, all beat via MPC.
Connan Mockasin – Jassbusters
This album is so weird. It sounds totally inappropriate in so many ways.
Nils Frahm – All Melody
Saw him perform in Brisbane with 2 studios worth of analog gear on stage, surreal control over his analog setup and he draws such a great crowd.
