I don’t want to go dabbling into plagiarism here, but when I first heard this new Aldous RH track, I read an article that said that ‘Feelin Blue’ was a song “stuck between seasons”. That’s a line that has really stuck with me over the last few days, it’s hard to encapsulate this in any other way. It has this warped, sunny guitar line – not unlike LA Priest and Connan Mockasin – that leaves you feeling fuzzy. Yet it also holds this yearning within the vocals, in a weird melancholic way of course. This does feel like the strongest songwriting we’ve seen from Aldous since his former band Egyptian Hip Hop dissipated, and maybe because it ‘Feelin Blue’ seems to capture the fun from EHH alongside this new tone of Aldous. It’s a short, sharp, sweet jam that is sittin out in the rain. Lovely stuff.
