FRESH JUICE: BEACH HOUSE – ALIEN

By October 25, 2018 No Comments

Last week, Golden Plains dropped the line-up for their 13th edition. Among a stacked bill featuring electronic wiz Four Tet, sexy song-makers The Internet and Pills ‘n’ Thrills slingers Happy Mondays, there’s one band that really stood out: Beach House. The Baltimore duo seems tailor-made for a transcendent twilight Saturday set that will certainly take the Sup’ into the galaxies with their brand of shoegazed dream-pop.

After dropping one of the most stunning albums of the year, 7, Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand have blessed us with a new track, ‘Alien’. The song is an outtake from the recording sessions of their seventh record and was previously only available on the band’s European tour as a B-side to 7 track ‘Lose Your Smile’.

It’s understandable why ‘Alien’ was left off the album. It’s abrasive and fuzzy, unlike any song on 7. But that’s not to say it’s not a quality tune. In fact, it has all the ingredients to be a great Beach House song. Victoria’s hauntingly angelic vocals and cryptic lyrics never fail to amaze. Her voice floats above the scuzzy shoegaze soundscape that wouldn’t be out of place on a My Bloody Valentine record and an acoustic guitar strums gently in the backdrop, adding a nice touch. Can’t wait to see this gem soundtrack the Sup’.
