Brisbane has always been a hotbed of shit-hot alternative bands, from the good ol’ days of straight-up-and-down indie bands (Last Dinosaurs) to the literal hottest darlings of today (The Creases, Hatchie etc.). I’ve always seemed to find some gold lo-fi, garage stuff from Brisvegas, usually via friends and friends of friends and Sweater Curse are no different. Without naming names, I feel like I’m loosely biased towards this band, but also, like, I can do what I want mum. The 3-piece have released three tracks to date, and ‘Can’t See You Anymore’ seems to be their strongest so far. The track feels cleaner overall, but also its songwriting is refined. The story is raw, and the instrumentation is aptly dark, in a very 90s emo way, without the whole overbearing ‘sad dude’ element. It makes sense that they’re hitting Bigsound this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they blew up in a big way over the next 12 months.
‘Can’t See You Anymore’ is out now via the whole wide internet.
