LISTEN: alt-J – Hunger Of The Pine
Life is full of surprises. Today I learned that alt-J, even with a gaping Gwil Sainsbury sized hole (yep, bass and all), can still write something which is truly intricate, beautiful and more rewarding with each listen. Oh, and it also features an unexpected but totally track-defining vocal sample from Miley Cyrus’ 4×4 too. Hunger Of The Pine is born from piercing simplicity, organic sounds and tones herald a feeling of true warmth and it brings with it an assured sense that they’re on the cusp of a revelation. Once you can get over those pesky Radiohead comparisons (sure to be hanging around for some time), it becomes evident that there’s something pretty special on the way.
