The initial idea manifested itself on a busy dance-floor late at night; a moment in time which commemorated and celebrated the electronic music landscape of Melbourne was to be captured, mixed and released for the world to experience. Now, it’s nearly here. Cut Copy presents: Oceans Apart. The 80 minute mix ebbs and flows, bringing together artists such as World’s End Press, Nile Delta, Tornado Wallace and Statue to create a seamless aural journey from the laneways of the CBD to the ‘burbs alike. It’s magic. The first official taste from the compilation comes in the form of Ara Koufax’ ‘Brenda’, and boy does it fly the flag nicely. These two have taken a step away from the Naysayer and Gilsun project to delve deep into the workings of analogue house with this, their second official single. A joyous affair indeed, ‘Brenda’ manages to develop a sweet contrast between bubbling 110bpm acid-tinged house with soaring, soulful vocals (care of Brenda Fassie) and a piano line good enough to physically take your breath away. Don’t just take it from us:

Oceans Apart will be released digitally on November 11th and on vinyl November 18th via the band’s own dance imprint, Cutters Records. Preorder your digital copy HERE.

Ara Koufax will be performing at Camp Nong over New Years. Details HERE.
