LISTEN: Friendly Fires & The Asphodells – Before Your Eyes
“Long, expansive, drawn-out and psychedelic”. That’s the word from Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane on their new material and it’s safe to say that today’s featured single ‘Before Your Eyes’ suits that description down to a tee. It’s the first taste of something new since 2011’s Pala LP and it’s immediately evident that there’s been a creative departure from their more instantly recognizable early material. The band have teamed up with an inspired duo in The Asphodells (Andrew Weatherall + Timothy J Fairplay) to bring us the near 8 minute washed-out epic that I’ll happily name as the best comeback single of 2014 so far. Whilst we still have no details on their forthcoming LP number 3, this 12″ release will do just fine for now.
Before Your Eyes is the A-side from a 12″ which is set for release on March 31st via FF’s Telophase Records.
