Obits are a four-piece band who began playing together back in 2006 and currently live in Brooklyn, New York. The band finally came together from a long line of influential garage, punk, surf, surf-punk, and garage-punk bands; namely Hot Snakes, Edsel, Drive Like Jehu, Girls Against Boys and Pitchfork. Today’s track ‘Spun Out’ is the first single release from the band’s third LP, following on from 2011’s Moody, Standard and Poor which we’ve held a dear soft spot for ever since hearing it for the first time at Pony in the early hours of a hazy morning. Spun Out combines jangling guitars with pulsating percussion lines and lead vocalist Rick Froberg ferociously drives the narrative whilst the track progresses into a penetrating and fuzzy epic. This is refreshing garage rock done with a sense of honesty, vigour and flair!
Obits’ third LP ‘Bed & Bugs’ is released on September 10 through Sub Pop.
