I suppose the obvious preamble to this feature would be to harp on about the fact that the artist in question, Kody Nielson, co-wrote and produced Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s year-defining Multi Love LP with his brother Ruben – but let’s not bother. Why would there be a need when Silicon and his single ‘Burning Sugar’ offers so much as a standalone proposition? Today’s featured single is a vibrant slice of avant-garde pop music that pushes the boundaries in all the right places; melodically, lyrically and tonally – this is brilliance from every angle. There’s a certain quality to Burning Sugar that grips you from the get go, almost daring you to shake the rhythmic hold. Do yourself a favour and check out Kody and Raph Brown’s video, too. Peculiar, yet oddly satisfying.
