Brisbane psych-pop five piece The Belligerents bring us our feature today with their blistering new single ‘Before, I Am’! The band took time away from city life throughout the recording of their long-awaited debut, heading to a remote island off the East Coast of Australia and shutting off completely. As far as you can hear on ‘Before, I Am’, they may as well have travelled to another planet entirely. There’s an unchained sense of freedom throughout the single; moments that recall early Battles sit alongside driving shoegaze elements that shimmer as they keep everything in the right place, ushering a wash of colorful feedback before moving into a tight pulse in each verse. This is a remarkable first taste of their yet-to-be-named record due out later this year. Keep an ear out.
