Vampire Weekend are back! It’s been a while since we’ve heard any new material from the New York based four-piece, and new single ‘Ya Hey’ marks an impressive return. The song is full of classic Vampire Weekend hooks and front man Ezra Koenig’s vocals still hold the incredible range we heard throughout the first records. Throughout Vampire Weekend’s career there has been a dynamic progression in sound, Ya Hey delivers an intricate and heavily layered approach which incorporates some less than conventional sounds, but somehow it sounds organic and fresh. This may not be as ferocious as past hits, but the direction is an exciting one and shows that despite any accusation of a formulaic approach, the band clearly has an ambitious record readied.
