I’m often late to most things. Parties, work, dentist appointments, my birthday, my dad’s birthday, the birth of my future child (probably). So it’s no surprise (to me at least) that I’m late to this ripping release from Annie Bass and Christopher Port. I mean, Porty is one of the strongest local producers in the game right now (right now meaning like over the last three years), whilst Annie Bass continually peaks my interest, but is yet to release a whole body of work!! The one-off colab two-track kicks off hard with ‘Thrown Away’, with a footworky, percussive piece backing punching pop lines from Bass. ‘Counting All’ definitely feels like what future Annie Bass tracks could be, a more subtle and soulful creation, where Bass is everything. Port offers the perfect, minimal production to allow Bass to control the space with her vocals. Don’t sleep on this one folks, because every minute you don’t know about this release is just another minute closer to your impending death.
Thrown Away / Counting All is out now via Future Classic/Opulent/Pieater.
