FRESH JUICE: PEGGY GOU – IT MAKES YOU FORGET (ITGEHANE)

Peggy Gou is one of the most exciting producers that have emerged in the last few years. Having had a very strong year in 2016 Gou has given us the first taste of her forthcoming ep with her latest banger, It Makes You Forget (Itgehane). Having hopped from her home country of South Korea to the UK, Gou now resides in Berlin and it’s pretty clear that the German capital has had a profound impact on her artistically. Now, in the past, much of what Gou has presented visually has been in black and white. The artwork for her debut ep, Art of War was predominantly black and white; Seek For Maktoop artwork also black and white. Many of her displayed pictures on her social accounts too fit the same colour scheme. This observation is by no means an implication that Gou’s music is one-dimensional and is in no way throwing shade (intended) on her earlier work. In the past she has blended futuristic poppy electronica on Gou Talk with light cerebral jazz on Troop and in doing so has created an eclectic catalogue. But Today’s Juice feels like more like a sunrise than a sundown- not to mention the artwork for today’s track is filled with such vibrant colours. Lightly soaked in a downtempo technoy drum beat, It Makes You Forget (Itgehane) comes strong with a heavy dose of disco. Additionally, this midweek freshy is the first time that we’ve heard Gou sing on any of her tracks. The vocals are candidly delivered in Korean and will hopefully be something that we hear more of her upcoming ep, Once, which drops March 2nd.
