The more things change, the more they stay the same. The world is a rapidly changing place in so many ways, including the rapidly changing nature of the local music industry. And yet, The Ocean Party are releasing another album, making it an album each year for the last 15 years. Beauty Point will be the band’s 47th studio album, and will see the six piece deliver another belter of an LP, full of melancholic lo-fi. ‘More to Run’ is the latest track to drop from the album, and it’s another bloody solid shot. Alongside the rumbling bass line and light keywork, Lachlan Denton’s vocals are commanding, showing a matured side of The Ocean Party’s overarching storyline, with lines like “I have to believe in more than myself” and “I have to be conscious of my health”. The familiar guitar twang is there, the slightly depressing motifs of being in your mid-20s shining through… but to be honest I can’t say they’ve changed ways, they’re just releasing more really good music.
The Ocean Party’s forthcoming LP, Beauty Point, is out August 18 via Spunk Records.
