For those of you who follow the blog, you would have seen us frothing over the first single ‘Phantasm’ (featuring Nicole Millar) from Cosmo’s Midnight a couple of months back. Late last week we excitedly awoke to find that the Sydney duo’s debut Surge EP had been released, and it’s in this form that we begin to understand where the duo plan to make their mark with this stellar release. Title track Surge is very aptly named, it is centered around a pulsating kick which maintains a perfect synergy between ambiance and the upbeat sensibilities which instantly make you want to dance. Phantasm still holds the same pop sensibilities which draw comparisons to Purity Ring and Bondax, it never overwhelms but consistently takes you with it’s ethereal layers. The production value of this EP is second to none. The dark horse of the EP for us is ‘Lovers Shadow’. It’s contemplative, melancholic and hints at the duo’s ability to create a complete sense of versatility even over the course of a 4-track EP. We can’t get enough!
