FROTH OF THE DAY: CULTS – STATIC (LP STREAM)

CULTS

New York outfit Cults are back with their second LP, ‘Static’! Streaming through NPR (link below), the long awaited follow-up to their self titled debut album has blown us away with it’s progressive take on a classic alternative rock sound. Band members Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion have remained tight lipped throughout the recording process, and last month released their dynamic lead single ‘High Road’, which notably employed superb intertwining vocals to provide contrast and light to the darker elements which underpin the track. There’s a captivating air throughout this album and it’s not surprising to see a marked progression which is as assertive as it is well executed. For us, this is undoubtedly an album which marks the graduation from a widely hyped buzz-band to the real deal. They haven’t visited our shores since Laneway 2012, and we’ll be keeping an eye out and our fingers crossed for some live dates sometime in the future to support the release.
