It’s finally here! Sydney duo Jagwar Ma have been gracious enough to share the stream of their debut LP Howlin’ with the ever resourceful cats over at NPR. It’s been an eventful year so far for the guys, with support slots for Foals overseas, The XX here in Australia, Glastonbury on the horizon and a sadly abandoned Australian tour last month. At last, a release date has been set for June 11, the album has been a long time coming for fans of our previously ‘frothed’ singles ‘The Throw’ and ‘Man I Need’. The album continues along on the same path as the singles, seamlessly blending rock, acid, space-disco in what may be the best “Madchester revival” type release of the last decade. In saying that, it’s not fair to pigeon-hole this band or this record; from the slow burning, engrossing kicks of ‘Uncertainty’ to the euphoric and rave centric highs of ‘Four’, the album succeeds wholeheartedly in sewing together a cohesive and luscious tapestry of work with is built around the live intensity. This isn’t an album full of hits: this is an album to be listened to fully and enjoyed, and that’s something which excites us to no end.

Jagwar Ma play Splendour in the Grass – 26th-28th July at North Byron Parklands, Byron Bay.
