LISTEN: Mac Demarco – Passing Out Pieces
Mac Demarco today released the first taste of his forthcoming LP with a new single titled ‘Passing Out Pieces. Given that this is the first new material since the ‘2’LP, there was always going to be a lofty sense of expectation toward an artist who undoubtedly shaped the musical landscape of 2013 for us here at I OH YOU. The new single from the (somewhat awfully) titled ‘Salad Days’ LP is a definite progression which is more dynamic in the way it has been created. The familiar twang of DeMarco’s guitar is now punctuated with robust synthesizers, ebbing and flowing as he questions the direction his life has taken, using his mothers relative naivety as a yardstick to asses the effect of his self harming and regretful decisions. It’s all getting quite deep, but in the best possible way. Mac DeMarco has a very unique way of expression which is both captivating and enlightening. We can’t wait for that (awfully, awfully) titled album!
