Melbourne’s Northeast Party House last night dropped the first single from their heavily anticipated debut LP, which is set for release in early 2014. The song, titled ‘Youth Allowance’, hits the mark as a four-to-the-floor guitar driven anthem and picks up directly where past singles ‘Stand Tall’ and ‘Empires’ left off. There is a clear progression in sound here, the layered guitars and explosive percussion signal both a widening ambition and a maturing repertoire which will no doubt feature when their debut finally reveals itself. Lead vocalist Zachary Hamilton-Reeves brings the heat, the fiery chorus line “Let’s all get on Youth Allowance!” evokes imagery of rebellion and frenetic chaos as the song ebbs and flows whilst still retaining the classic aesthetic of what made this band one of Melbourne’s most revered.
