The Arctic Monkeys today released the second single from their widely anticipated forthcoming LP ‘AM’. ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High’ continues on the same path of the British four piece’s last release and delivers a slow brooding, hard hitting Rock’n’Roll sound which is centered around a vivid retelling of tumultuous late night interaction. The video begins when the band’s previous single ‘Do I Wanna Know’ is heard echoing through the bar and as front man Alex Turner begins to message his female friend, all touch with reality is lost as his hallucinogens kick in (presumably). We love this because it’s progressive and as always it doesn’t rest on the laurels of previous albums. It’s been said by the band themselves that this album would fuse hip hop sounds with rock sensibilities, a move sure to interest any discerning fan. AM may indeed split long time followers as Humbug did, but we think despite any inclination to think otherwise; this could be one of the albums of the year.
Arctic Monkeys will release their fifth LP ‘AM’ on September 9th.
