For a band that once wrote a song about expectation taking its toll, Tame Impala sure let us sweat on the release for this one. Yes, it’s finally here. Ahead of their widely publicised appearances at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, the band today shared their brand new single ‘Let It Happen’ as well as an extensive list of tour dates heading for the Northern Hemisphere midway into 2015. A far cry from the minimalistic vision for the new material that frontman Kevin Parker had publicly mused on in 2013, it may come as no surprise to fans that the new sound of Tame Impala is one seeped in electronica and regimented, surging percussion as previously heard on sneak peeks from the AAA Aardvark Getdown Services project along with features and credits on Mark Ronson’s latest effort Uptown Special. The 8 minute epic acknowledges its place along the pop continuum but only briefly evokes memories of albums gone with intricate guitars before vocoders wash each vocal line into a splendid haze. Let It Happen is an ode to submission and acceptance; a mantra that is initially seeped in self doubt but slowly builds with tidal conviction until Parker’s closing lyric ‘Maybe I was ready all along’ is just a fleeting, subconscious memory. We’re sold.
