Saturday afternoon saw Coachella FOMO/panic levels reaching fever pitch as the live to air YouTube stream began to transmit footage of Tame Impala’s widely publicised 2015 Coachella set. Looking at home on the main stage (immediately before festival headliners ACDC), the Perth outfit ran through a hearty mix of older favourites from Innerspeaker and Lonerism whilst the frenetic new single ‘Let It Happen’ lit the Indio skies up along with thousands of hands as their engrossing visuals took yet another step into the abyss. The growing back catalogue of the band saw a number of classic set list casualties, but was made up for with extended psych-freak out jams and a healthy dose of stage banter including some epic ACDC appreciation. The first festival show of a brand new chapter for the project and sounding as powerful as ever. There’s no better place to do it than at Coachella.
