Following a six year hiatus between his debut and sophomore albums, Tom Vek has delivered perhaps one of the more surprising album announcements of 2014 so far, and along with it comes his superb new single/video Sherman (Animals in the Jungle). It’s a welcome return for Vek, who with this track has made a decisive return to the frenetic sound which characterized his widely lauded debut LP, We Have Sound. Menacing guitars veer haphazardly to create a backdrop for his trademarked monotone drawl on Sherman, and as we’ve seen in the past, his videos are a surreal and hyperactive exploration of the internal dialogue which drives this long running project. Crucial stuff.
