LISTEN: Young Franco – FAT

Today we feature an EP which was a crucial soundtrack to my Xmas break. I couldn’t wait to write on it, and better yet we had the man himself offer us a few words on both it’s creation and place within modern dance music. Brisbane’s Young Franco has become a staple of the club scene in his hometown and when we first caught him in spectacular form at Splendour in the Grass in 2013, it was evident that his unique style was one we’d be hearing a lot more of. Releasing his first EP of original production, the impressive 5-track ‘FUTUREFUNK EP is an odyssey which uses a vast array of instruments to tie together a fresh and multidimensional take on funk, soul, disco and house.

Today’s featured track ‘Fat’ brings a vibrant and tropical approach to disco-funk which is influenced by old and new, with Young Franco remarking that he ‘has been really vibing off Kilter, Flight Facilities and a lot of old disco records lately’. Given the renewed passion for disco, a key style which Franco takes inspiration from, he noted to us that ‘classic styles like disco, funk and dance music are timeless, and it’s just a matter of being inspired by the people before you and putting your own personal twist on it that pushes things forward.’ Be sure to check out FAT + the FUTUREFUNK EP below!

Young Franco has offered the entire FUTUREFUNK EP available for free download HERE.
