City Calm Down’s Top 10 Tracks of 2013

By December 18, 2013 No Comments

As 2013 draws to a close, we’ve asked a number of our favorite artists and friends to put together their end of year lists. The criteria was simple: compile us a list of what inspired and excited throughout the course of 2013. It’s not been an easy task for some, but we happily present you today with City Calm Down’s end of year list!

David Bowie – “Love Is Lost (Hello Steve Reich Mix By James Murphy For The DFA)”
– Bowie meets DFA whats not to love? The applause is deafening…see what i did there?

– So smooth you’ll slip

Reason this is a top track is 2:51. Do it. The raw approach in vocals and instrumentation (across the whole album) is interesting.

Bonobo – Antenna
Bass Groves hard in this one. Mix in bonobo’s percussion perfection and some woodwind melodies and this song gets repeat listens.

Thundercat – Oh Shiet It’s The X
Mesmerising layers of Thundercat’s signature bass chops are carefully twisted into an uplifting funk anthem. Oh Molly.

Andras Fox – Romance
Stripped back, classy, yet still tough as nails, it’s drum machine perfection from our very own back door. Dam-Funk approves, we approve

The National – Humiliation.

The way this song drives and moves and changes gets me every time. One of the bet songs I’ve heard in a very long time, not just in 2013.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – So Good At Being In Trouble.

The melody in this song is outrageous. So bloody catchy.

This modern take on Stalking To A Stranger is all you can really ask for from a cover. So true to the original
but still of their own blend.

That guitar. That voice. It calms me
