Okay, pop music is going to get another HUGE name in 2019, and it’s a 21-year-old first-generation Mexican-American singer from Indiana, named Omar Apollo. There’s already been some serious murmuring about the potential of Apollo, but I think if there was to ever be a track that really signals this, it’s his new single – ‘Ashamed’. Across its three and a half minutes, it makes its way through jazz, R&B, funk, soul and an undeniably catchy pop chorus. This is an extremely fun track, that messes with everything that a pop song usually is, especially when it dives into the distorted funk breakdown. With this in his arsenal, as well, as emotional ballads and moody productions, there currently doesn’t seem like there’s anything Apollo can’t do. We’re deep in SXSW territory right now, so wait for the Apple Beats 1 team to get around it, and I’m certain you’ll be hearing more from this guy very soon.
‘Ashamed’ is out now, find it at your local internet music house.
