FRESH JUICE: TREVOR POWERS – ACHE / PLASTER SAINT

By May 31, 2018 No Comments

I do love a good rebirth. I mean, I wish I could be reborn as a 21 year old in 2007, so I could go to a Digitalism show when they were good. And although that’s not possible for me (at the time of writing, could still happen), it certainly is a reality to Trevor Powers. Formally known as the absolutely wonderful Youth Lagoon, Powers was recently reborn as… himself. Now writing under his own name, and releasing under his own label, his music is more experimental, with a definite electronic leaning. Whilst his penchant for writing line after line of hypnotising lyrics is still there, the production and instrumentation is scattered and erratic, showcasing the far-reaching and introspective nature of this next chapter of his work. ‘Ache’ and ‘Plaster Saint’ are two perfect examples of this, but I’m not sure how I feel about them yet… I like them… but… I don’t know. I’ll get back to you on that. Same time next week?

The new Trevor Powers LP,  Mulberry Violence, is out August 17 via Baby Halo.
