Friends of the blog and purveyors of a newfangled stream of ethereal dance music; Ara Koufax are back with their new single, titled ‘Market’. Luke Neher and Sam Gill (also known for their Naysayer & Gilsun project) grabbed widespread attention and praise with 2014’s Brenda Fassie sampling house tune ‘Brenda’, released on the Cut Copy curated Oceans Apart compilation, and since then have shifted to a more driving and challenging sound with their latest effort. The guys enlisted our own Sam Mullaly (City Calm Down) for an improvised saxophone effort, which manages to drag this tune from a series of unrelenting kicks and swirling darkness into an emotional take on colour and light. There’s even a nod to a certain French pop band as oaky percussion provides a fitting wind back to the song – almost willing you to make sense of things in its dying moments.

Ara Koufax will release their debut EP, including ‘Market’, through Downtime in April.
