LISTEN: Fractures – Cadence

Fractures is a Melbourne born and raised multi-instrumentalist/producer/vocalist and it’s safe to say that 2013 has been a turbulent year so far. After having risen to prominence in early March with his triple j certified debut single ‘Twisted’, Mark Zito had assembled a band and begun the process of bringing his music to life in the live setting. That was before he suffered a broken neck and as a result, all future dates were cancelled and the recovery process began. Now he’s back and seemingly in better form than ever. The new single ‘Cadence’ is a poignant reminder of the raw talent behind the project and this song is a perfect example of the gentle yet driving presence which is buoyed by airey guitars, delicate percussion lines and a clinical electronic bed for which the song rises from. There’s an organic feel to this driving alternative pop number which slowly laments the breakdown of a relationship and further pushes the retrospective idea of longing for somebody in a way which is lyrically considered and captivating. It’s clear to see a stylistic development and comfort even across these last two tracks from Fractures, and it won’t be too long before the rest of the world knows it, too.
